Have any of you seen the recent advertisements for a "free" photo canvas? (If you Google it, it's the first thing that pops up.) Well, hubby and I wanted to try to get some of our gorgeous RoPoPhotos printed on canvas to put in our house. We've never had anything like that before, so we really didn't know where to start. I saw the add for a "free" canvas, and thought I would give it a shot.
The 8 x 10 size is the "free" size offered, but all others sizes are dramatically reduced as well. I decided to "splurge" on the 11 x 14 for $9.99 (plus S&H) Two weeks later, I had my canvas! It looked pretty good, except for the fact it was just a little bit crooked. But for $9.99, I couldn't complain too much. It looked great, as-is, but I knew I wanted it to make a bigger statement with the use of a frame.
I went to Hobby Lobby this week looking for a frame. I picked out a beautiful, thick wood frame, but decided to wait until it was 50% off before I bought it. While I was looking though all the frames, I found a section that was dramatically reduced. Including this little number:
The only thing wrong with this frame was the glass was missing, and two thin stripes of country-blue on the inner edge. I lived with country blue walls for 20+ years in my old house.....I'm not having any country blue in this house! LOL. So, we busted out the black spray paint and kissed the country blue goodbye!
I brought the frame back into the house and decided to try the canvas in it. Oh my goodness, it was PERFECT! Even though these pictures don't show it well, the frame and the canvas match exactly! Marty didn't even want to consider any other frame. We set the picture where we could see it as we walked by, and would just look at it, just to make sure it looked OK. Marty loved it, but I kept thinking the black edge was just too black.
So, I decided to break out my silver and gold metallic paint, and just brush-and-wipe over the black. If we didn't like it, we could just cover it back up with the black again. Fortunately, we didn't have to do that. It was exactly what the frame needed! Marty loved the touched-up frame even better!
For around $20.00, some creativity, and a little elbow grease, we have an elegant framed canvas to enjoy for a lifetime!
Now to decide where to hang it...

You are so talented and have such an eye for changing things to what you want them to be (that sounds a little weird!)! Fabulous as always ;-) I really love this particular family picture too- you guys look so happy!
ReplyDelete"Expensive look at a low price" - my favorite words! I love a bargain & good ol' ingenuity. You done good, Girl!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice made by you. Its good to hear it looks expensive but actually it only cost less..Very cute. Thanks for the share.
ReplyDelete$20??? How do you do it??? I seriously need to learn some of your tricks, my friend. Our house could be paid off by now if I had just followed at your heels 10 years ago and learned all this stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou are pure genius and that canvas makes me smile so big. Your family just radiates love!!!

Two Peas In A Pod
Hi there! Popped over from Jenna's Journey! :) I also took advantage of the free canvas a while back. I got the 8x10, and I agree the other sizes were reasonable, maybe I should've plurged too. I gave it to my dad for father's day. I love canvas pictures! Take care!
ReplyDeleteThese frames turned out cute! I came over to visit after I saw your comment on my blog about being a BSN RN also. I see that you work OB and that is so cool! That is actually the specialty I wanted to go into upon graduating 2 months ago, but the job market here has been ridiculously awful so I took what I could get. I actually got into an RN Residency program where I have an extended orientation (6months) which I thought was amazing because even though I passed boards etc I feel so dumb d/t lack of experience! I am actually in the OR & to my surprise I am loving it so far! Anyway, thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for commenting on my blog earlier! The picture turned out perfectly and I can't believe you paid less than $20 for the entire thing! I'll be keeping up with you, new friend...talk to you soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Robin, thanks for commenting on MeMe's Ink! I am really excited to get to meet some new blog friends.
ReplyDeleteCute! Thanks for the blog comment! I'm from Alabama too! Have a great week!

ReplyDeleteVisit me back at http://babyeichhorn.blogspot.com
The canvas looks great. I did the canvas special too. I thought they did a great job on my 8x10 but my 11x14 I didn't like as much but I think that was my fault for picking out a picture that was too close up.
ReplyDeleteHey girl! Just stopping by from Jenna's blog...super great job on the frame! I will have to check out that website for a couple of my wedding pics, I would love to have them on canvas! Hope you have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I found your blog on Jenna's blog hop, and "Wow," you have a fantastic site. I've been readng your posts, and I have laughed, cried, and been inspired!
