May the Force Be With You!

This weekend, we went on a little adventure to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for a birthday "experience" for one of Jameson's friends, Seth.

The highlight of this trip.....

STAR WARS

Every year, the Space and Rocket Center hosts several traveling exhibitions, to go along with the already incredible displays that are there permanently.

Through September, they are playing host to a Star Wars exhibit.

I was unsure what to expect, but once we got there, we realized it was really nice production.

We were greeted from the very beginning by a host of characters from the movies.

(Sorry for the poor picture quality.  We were not allowed to use flash photography, so the indoor pictures are dark and blurry)

The kids were ecstatic!

I think they would have been happy to spend the entire day just standing right there, rubbing elbows with the the likes of Storm Troopers, Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and the man himself, Darth Vader.

But, there was much more to see.

There were hundreds of actual props from the movies, along with costumes, weapons, and vehicles.

Jameson's favorite character....General Grievous.
Hey, dude wields FOUR light sabers at once!

The kids had a ball!

Oh, and the highlight of the Star Wars experience....
How many people can say that DARTH VADER brought them their birthday cake?

Seth is the envy of men, living in their mother's basements, with Princess Leia posters everywhere!
After we left the Star Wars exhibit, there were still hundreds of displays from decades of space exploration!

It is just unreal to see actual rockets that have been in outer space!

US Army Roland

US Army Missle Recovery Submarine Perry

Saturn V Launch Vehicle
This is listed as an actual historic landmark.
It is MASSIVE in size!

We had a hard time getting them out of this pod.  They were trying to grab the change that had fell out of everybody's pockets.

This is the only part that was left of the HUGE Saturn V rocket.  This is the actual Command Module from the Apollo 16 mission.

Lunar Excursion Module

America's newest Command Module, Orion.

The highlight of Jameson's day....

Getting to actually hold a "real" light saber....

The lowlight of the day....

Finding out that the "real" light sabers in the gift shop were $150.00/each!

Oh yeah, there was wailing and gnashing of teeth!

So, if you are a Star Wars fan, or a fan of Space in general, The Huntsville Space and Rocket Center is the place to go!
It is WELL worth the trip!

Oh, and my the FORCE be with you!
