Allie's Butterfly Kisses

Some of you may have noticed I have a new little blog button right over there ----> that says "Allie's Butterfly Kisses".

The "Allie" that the button is referring to the precious baby girl who passed away on January 14, 2009. Allie was born with Trisomy 18. Her parents were told that she would never survive the pregnancy, much less be born alive. Allie proved everyone wrong when she blessed everyone with her presence for 148 wonderful days. I have known Allie's parents, Michael and Susan, and big brother Mason, for their entire lives. They are such a wonderful, Christian family. They have been a true inspiration to our entire community, especially us!

For Allie's story, go HERE to Allie's page on the Trisomy 18 official website.

A little while after Allie passed away, her mother Susan, started her own blog, Standing on Faith, where she is sharing her family's journey through their lives without Allie. I am so honored to know and love this special family!

Allie was born on August 19, 2008. As the one-year anniversary fast approaches, Allie's family wanted to do something special to remember their precious daughter by. So, they came up with Allie's Birthday Butterfly Kisses. Here is what Susan says about this special day:

"Her one year birthday is approaching soon and I have pondered, and thought, and racked my brain for ideas of special things that I can do to honor Allie's one year Birthday. I will be releasing butterflies on her birthday since I was unable to at her funeral, because it was in January. Another idea that I have thought of adding is releasing butterflies on the blog as well. If you have noticed, butterflies happen to be the "IN" thing all of a sudden (Every time I turn around I see butterflies). I was going to take pictures of butterflies, or butterfly objects, etc... and show a slide show of all the butterflies on her Birthday. This is where you guys come into play. I thought it would be neat to let others send pictures of butterflies, things with butterflies, butterfly objects, butterfly images off of the computer, etc... so that butterflies could be released from, not only us, but from all over. If this is something that you would be interested in doing, we would greatly appreciate your help. Just collect your butterfly pictures and email them to me at : alliesparents@gmail.com Feel free to be creative, and please spread the word to others if you like. If you don't want to leave your name, we understand, but we would love to at least know where they are coming from. Thank you so much for your help with Allie's Birthday Project."

Isn't this a FANTASTIC idea?!!

So here, my most favoritest bloggie buddies ever, is where I ask for your help. If you would like to participate and/or help the Brewer family spread the word, please grab a button for your blog.

And here is the blog address for the button: http://michaelandsusanbrewer.blogspot.com/2009/06/sending-birthday-butterfly-kisses-up-to.html

After reading about Susan's idea, I immediately thought about Stellan's Name Gallery (from McMama's site: My Charming Kids) and thought that something like that would be PERFECT for her project!

So, my friends, if you see it fit to help us promote little Miss Allie's Butterfly Birthday Memorial, I would be greatly honored!

Thank you all for everything! I couldn't ask for better bloggie buddies!!

  3. Sweet baby. I can't believe her birthday is upon us already. Susan still continues to amaze me. She has the most amazing ideas. I'll try to find some butterflies for that sweet angel. Thanks for posting this for us to see.

  4. Beautiful baby girl. Did you happen to catch the segment on Monday's Today Show with Matt and Ginny Mooney from Arkansas? Their little boy Eliot was born with Trisomy 18 and lived 99 days. They have started a foundation that they call 99 Days.

  6. What a tragic loss. Beautiful baby. As Kathy just mentioned in her comment, a family in Ark. just went through the same type of tragedy. It is so wonderful to see your friends and our Arkansas parents making something good out of their tragedies. Thank you for posting this Robin.
