Opinions Please

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to "Mistreat" my windows, and I loved the way they turned out.

They were almost perfect, except for one teeny, tiny thing....

They weren't long enough.

I mean, they just barely touched the floor....on one edge....but actually cuffed just a bit on the other edge.

You see, one thing that I didn't take into consideration when I glued my trim on was that the trim would sort-of "shrink-up" the edge of the fabric.

In other words, I pulled the trim a little tighter than I pulled the material when gluing, so now it's gapped up.

Nobody that has seen them has noticed it, except for me.

And it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!

So, after looking through the Nester's library of Mistreatments, I decided that I would try to fix it by adding a complimentary material to the bottom of the curtains.

I went in search of a beautiful plaid or stripe, but just couldn't find what I was looking for.

Then, I found this....

Yes, I know that polka-dots are the farthest thing from plaid or stripes you can get, but the colors are EXACTLY the same.

After a lot of back-and-forth and persuasion from my husband, I bit the bullet, bought a couple yards, bought some more fluffy trim, and headed home.

This is just a rough mock-up, but what do you think?

The actual length of fabric will be a little shorter because I underestimated how many yards I would need, but it will be at least a 1 1/2 to 2 feet band at the bottom.

I know some of the purists out there will probably hate it, but I've never been one to "follow the rules" and want something a little different. (Just not as different as that awful green!)

I like that it is a little "funky", without being too weird.

So, do I go ahead and plug-in my glue gun, or do I wait and see if I can find the perfect plaid or stripe?

Comments? Suggestions?

  1. I dropped in from another blog. I'm voting no to the polka dots. They don't have the same color value and style as the other fabric. I do think the drapes look great just as they are though. I predict that in time you won't notice the hem problem.

I also read Chelsea's story. Oh my, what a treasure. I can't imagine the pain of losing the other two little ones.

    Bless you.

  2. I think you're on the right track but in my humble opinion, I think the dots are too large of a scale for the delicate toile print. I found a pair of drapes with the same combo but tiny dots. Here's a link for you to view.

  4. I must add my no vote. It makes the bottom look too heavy.

  6. ROBIN, STEP AWAY FROM THE POLKA DOTS AND NOBODY WILL GET HURT.

I think your drapes look beautiful. Maybe you won't even notice in a week or two. Usually that's how I get by when something is bugging me. If it's reallllly bad, I will keep getting bugged. If it's only a little bad, I won't even see it after awhile. Try my way then adjust if you have to.

  7. I vote no on te pokka dots. I love your curtain the way they are and I'm sorry but I have to agree with all of the ladies that posted before me. If the length bothers you in a few weeks could you lower the curian rod. Save the poka dot material for another one of your creative projects.
P.S. I love reading about your projects. One day I going to get my slacker bootie in gear and let the little crafty girl in my heart come out! ha...one day!
