"Chawed"

A few days ago, Kelly Stamps from Kelly's Korner did a post about being "chawed". She defined "chawed" as the perfect word to describe how you feel when you are embarrassed or mortified. Kelly used the word to described how she felt about seeing herself in a recent news interview.

Personally, I thought she was ADORABLE.

Well, the word got a lot of attention, so Kelly and her BFF, Laurie (who actually started saying the word) decided they wanted the word "chawed" to be "spread to the ends of the earth."

It's all in fun, folks!

The next thing I know, Kim from Endless Possibilities, decided to do her own "chawed" post. It was absolutely hilarious....well, to me it was, but it was "chawed" to Kim...lol!

SO, I thought I would share a little embarrassing (aka: "chawed") moment myself.

I can't believe I am telling you this.....

A few years ago, more than 2, but less than 6, not really sure how long ago......I'm trying to block it from my memory.....our Church was having some sort of party for adults and kids in the Church's annex. Somebody had the brilliant idea for the adults to play Musical Chairs.

(you know, where you put out one less chair than the number of people, play music, dance around the chairs, and when the music stops, you dive for the nearest chair. The person left without a chair is out, another chair is removed, and so-on....)

Being like the majority of small Southern Churches, the chairs we were using are the typical metal, fold-up chairs. Really slippery, and not very comfortable.

Well, the game starts, and was progressing, and I was doing GOOD! I managed to easily grab a chair during the first few rounds. As the number of chairs started decreasing, and the number of people "out" was increasing.....the competition was getting FIERCE! You think kids are bad, try playing musical chairs with a bunch of adults........Christian adults, at that.

We were steps away from heads rolling!

The music stops, and I dive for the chair......

OK, now is where I add just a WEE bit of information.

For those of you who don't actually know me IRL (in real life), you only partially know what I look like. You "know" what my face looks like and you have seen a picture or two of my jacked-up foot, but I don't think I have actually put a picture of my ENTIRE body on this blog. Well, my dear friends, there is a reason for that....

I AM HUGE!

I know that I joke about being a big ol' gal, but I really am BIG. Not 10 or 20 pounds overweight, but literally about 150 pounds overweight.

I am about one step away from looking like the bearded, fat lady at the carnival.

OK, now that you have that visual.....our story continues.....

I slung my big ol' fat bootie into that teeny-tiny metal fold-up chair, and the chair had decided it had enough! One second later, my big ol' bearded fat lady bootie was sitting on the floor.

And the chair no longer looked like it did a few seconds before.

It was bent.....really, really bent! Bent so bad that they had to throw it away.

So here I was, sitting on the floor, chair next to me bent beyond repair, and about 20 or so of my closest Church buddies, just looking at me.....

then the laughter begins.....

and they laugh.....

and laugh.....

and laugh...

A couple of people did stop laughing long enough to make sure I was OK, but quickly resumed when they realized I was fine....

Well, physically fine, anyway.

I got up, dusted off my injured pride, and proceeded to sit out the remainder of the game.....much to the dismay of everyone else.

I think that Musical Chairs will forever be ruined for me!

And THAT my friends is one of my most "Chawed" moments!

(I do have a TON of them, since, ya' know, I am so graceful and everything)

So my bloggie buddies.....What is one of YOUR most "Chawed" moments??

----------------------------------------

I am off for a few days for a little beach vacation (Thanks Connie and Kyle!), so I may or may not be here....it all depends of the speed of the condo's Internet....lol!

I cannot wait to read about everyone's "chawed" moments!!

  2. God love you! What a great story. I was always told that "chawed" meant chewed up and spit out! I am sure that is how your ego felt. Take care and watch out for the church events. Thanks for the morning laugh.

  5. There's nothing more humiliating than taking a fall!! I too took a traumatic tumble once. I was in gym class locker room ( I was a sophomore) when I slipped on wet concrete and fell to the ground dropping my towel and laying naked in front of the onlookers.

Hurry home - we miss you!

  6. That's great, Robin. All you can do is laugh at yourself and go on. You have a wonderful attitude.

  7. I'm laughing with you, not AT you! Do you have room for me in that beach chair? I hope you are posting to Crock Pot Wednesdays before leaving. If not this time, perhaps when you return. The prizes for the inaugural event are sooooo good.

  9. My husband and I have a bff couple who have had several occasions to talk about this very thing - how difficult it is to not laugh long and hard when someone falls. I have always felt that there is something wrong with all of us, because we can't stop laughing about something that may have hurt someone, or at the very least hurt their pride. Good for you for being able to laugh at yourself when you were chawed!! laurie
